Keynote: Hybrid/Agile Project Management – The What, Why & How
Organizations today are challenged to manage their projects within very tight budget and time constraints while meeting and exceeding the expectations of their customers. We can no longer manage our projects today using the same methodologies we applied 10 years ago. Overcoming our project challenges and accelerating their success requires re-thinking our approach to project management.
Hybrid Agile is an approach to project management that focusses on flexibility and fast improvement. It is a proven approach that can be applied to creating new products, services, technology, and other types of projects. Applying agile global best practices provides a high return on investment for organizations as they increase their project’s effectiveness and efficiency while ensuring all business and customer requirements are successfully met.
Agile has been used in many organizations as an excuse to allow projects to run ad hoc. No project deadlines, no clear milestones and no long-term accountability. These organizations don’t understand that agile does require structure, an overall goal and a timeline. In this keynote we’ll review the challenges faced when introducing hybrid/agile, explore the opportunities it presents and delve into the what, why and how of hybrid/agile project management. We’ll explore the myths and I’ll create a clear path for success. You’ll leave this keynote with many new ideas that can be implemented immediately including the tools, processes and techniques required to start and continue the journey.

Workshop: Hybrid/Agile Project Management – The What, Why & How
Background
Project Managers are often asked to manage their project within very tight budget and time constraints while meeting and exceeding the expectations of their customers. To effectively deal with these challenges we can no longer manage our projects today using the same methodologies we applied 10 years ago. We must re-think our approach to project management.
Hybrid/Agile is an approach to project management that focusses on flexibility and managing within tight constraints. The key for agile is time. Less time in meetings & compiling reports. Less time waiting for decisions or waiting for an expert to attend a meeting. Shorter time spent on prototyping, testing and production because they’re all done in 3-week iterations instead of through the life of a project. Hybrid/agile is being successfully used on product development, service development, innovation, marketing, human resources, research and development and other non-software projects. When done right, it is saving time.
Session Focus
Participants will experience how to manage a hybrid/agile project. They will be engaged throughout the entire process from definition to delivery. They will identify the project manager, product owner, scrum master and sprint team members. They will determine what elements of the project should be managed through waterfall and which elements will be managed through agile.
Included in this workshop will be how to hold an agile release planning meeting, create stories, develop the product backlog, lead a sprint planning meeting, create a sprint goal, backlog and tasks, manage stand-up meetings, etc. They’ll leave with the skills and knowledge to start using hybrid/agile immediately.
